This weekend Cambridge ‘99s Rowing Club Women’s and Men’s squad took home trophy’s and pots from the Norwich Head of the River Race. The Women’s first boat consisting of Abbey Child, Chrysa Litina, Sara Bastiani, Josie Harries, Agnes Bolinska, Klaske van Marrum, Guinevere Woolstenhulme, Linda Kitching and coxed by Sebastian Hathaway completed the 5000m course in 19 minutes and 21 seconds, taking home pots and the trophy for fastest women’s crew of the race. The Women’s second boat coming in second place completed the course in 20 minutes and 26 seconds with the nearest crew finishing over 2 minutes behind them. The Men’s first boat also took home trophy's and pots for completing the course in 17 minutes and 50 seconds, the fastest time of the day. The crew consisted of Karel Kabelik, Rob Sargent, Alex Shaw, Will Young, Rhidian Maltby, Friso van Gent, Nick Thorn, Nick Richardson and coxed by Sammi Tarling. Despite producing a winning time during division 1 they went and raced the 5000 meter course again in division 2, for time only, taking 54 seconds off their winning time. The Men’s second and third boats also laid down strong racing times of 19 minutes 04 seconds and 18 minutes 40 seconds respectively. The strong performance Cambridge ‘99s has produced over the last few months will be taken forward in two weeks’ time, as the club sends 5 crews to Tideway to compete with crews from around the world for London’s Head of the River Race.
