This page covers:
what people new to rowing should wear
what to wear when racing on-Cam/off-Cam
how to buy club kit, including the on-demand manufacturing options
extra non-club items you might like to have in different weather conditions
A cohesive kit across the club helps us feel like a team and is important for safety reasons when racing.
To get started with rowing all you need is some sportswear you can freely move your arms and legs in. You don't even need shoes! Fitted lycra isn't a requirement for training or racing and there are alternative options we can talk through if that would work better for you. It's a good idea to avoid wearing something very loose, which might get caught between the seat and the sliders or wrapped around the blade handle.
On Saturdays we often wear club colours (blue and yellow) or club kit (if you have it).
If you are racing on the river Cam ideally you should still be in race kit ideally. If you don't have some you can borrow for the race or in certain circumstances everyone can just race in matching t-shirts. Talk with your captains.
At off-Cam races you should follow British Rowing guidelines. This means that you should wear a club all-in-one/onesie/unisuit. Club all-in-ones are available to buy at the boathouse at any time and can also be purchased through Crewroom (see below). British Rowing guidelines only require club colours from the waist up, so club leggings are not mandatory.
Importantly, you should try to wear outer layers that represent the club or are in club colours (not previous clubs). However, it is much more important that you are safe and warm enough (queuing can last for more than 2 hours on a cold river). If there is a conflict between being warm or wearing club colours, always choose to be warm.
Rowing kit is available from our supplier Crewroom. An order window is opened twice a year for approximately two weeks. An email will be sent to the club with details on how to place an order. Winter kit is available during the winter window and summer kit is available during the summer window.

Sigma Embroidery make a selection of hoodies, sweaters and t-shirts that can be purchased at any time.
Stitch Rowing are great as an more affordable alternative with fun prints. These can also be purchased at any time.
At club dinners or big events, some members of the club will dress up in their club blazer. The club blazer is available in two options:
winter (dark with stripes): £200
summer (white with a piped collar): £235/£280 depending on the fabric

You may find it helpful to have specialist items of kit under different conditions.
Winter rowing:
Pogies are great for keeping the wind and water off your hands. Some people love them and some people can't stand them. Borrow a friend's to try them out before purchasing.
Several club members recommend these pogies from Crewroom.
A gilet is great for keeping your core warm while allowing free movement of your arms. Generic gilets are available or purchase the club design through Crewroom.
Rain:
A splash jacket allows greater movement and is more breathable than conventional rain gear. Generic splash jacket are available or purchase the club design through Crewroom.
Sunny weather:
A visor is good for keeping the sun out of your eyes while rowing. Some people are sunglasses people, some are visor people, some wear both. Generic visors are available or purchase the club design through Crewroom.
